Winter Engagement Session Downtown Charleston SC

I believe Charleston is beautiful, no matter what season
And, to prove that, I am thrilled to present Del and Jene’s winter engagement session downtown Charleston SC. In their photographs you’ll no doubt recognize the characteristic historic streets and alleys; the calming water and nature views and, of course, the beautiful romance between two people who love each other. What you won’t be able to see in the photos are the lovely benefits of taking photos in colder temperatures: no nats, no mosquitoes and low humidity! Those who know the nature of hot summer days in Charleston as well as I do, I’m sure will agree with me about the blessings of these advantages.

How Background Simplicity Can Put Love in the Forefront
While making sure the beauty of Charleston is captured in my clients’ photos, one of my other focuses is their connection, the affection they have for each other and playful unscripted moments. For this reason I often alternate photos with iconic locations with photos with simple backgrounds and outstanding light. One of my signature types of photos are those that allow the light to surround the couple and even trickle out towards the camera. The benefits of including photographs with a less distracting background is that it allows the couple to use these photos in multiple creative ways. For example, the black background photos below can make a great album cover, postcard or save the date that allows of text to be placed in the area around the couple.

How Playfulness Makes Everything Better
By time most people have made it in front of my lens we have shared at least a few laughter sessions. I love meeting my clients for a cup of tea or coffee before their engagement session. I get to hear about how they met and how he proposed and they get to hear about the goofy aspects of being a freelancer. This helps us get acquainted with each other and it makes the shoot much more relaxed. Sometimes during a session I will encourage them to dance in an alley, whisper a naughty word to each other or simply let their playful side be seen. I love the photos that result…they make smiling contagious.
