Shem Creek Park is a lovely new park in Mt. Pleasant, SC and it offers beautiful opportunities for waterfront entertainment and enjoyment. Additionally, taking photos here is easy especially during the week when the traffic is slower than the weekend. While there are several wedding venues on Shen Creek, the park itself is open to the public and can be a great backdrop for an engagement session.
The photo examples in this blog post are from a sunset engagement session. As always, for me, the best time to shoot is closer to sunrise or sunset. If you like marsh and water views and you don’t mind the occasional passer-by, this park can be ideal for a casual romantic stroll. Furthermore, there is quite a bit of wildlife to be observed. I have seen dolphins or pelicans every single time I have been at Shem Creek Park.
Here are some things to keep in mind when planning to use Shem Creek Park as an engagement session location:
it’s outdoors so it’s best to schedule a backup rain day
if you have long hair it may be best to wear it up or to have some hairpins handy in case there’s a breeze that day
wear shoes you’re comfortable walking in – it will make the whole experience more enjoyable if you’re at ease
weekends are busier than weekdays so choose a day where less traffic is expected and be patient as people pass by
Favorite spots at Shem Creek Park
There is an overpass that was built recently as part of the park that offers wonderful views over the water and local restaurants. I could spend hours watching people, paddleboarders, and the gorgeous skies from this location.
